Outreach > I.T.S. for Girls!

Our club meets a new mentor or role-model each meeting, visits their workplace, and explores the background science of their field through hands-on activities.

There are two sections of the I.T.S. for GIRLS! club:

  • Junior: Grades 4, 5 and 6
  • Senior: Grades 7, 8 and 9.

Each club section meets one Saturday each month To find out about more information about I.T.S. for Girls! or our next meeting, please contact us at sngirls@dal.ca.

Supermileage with some Super Girls

In May, we met with Allison, who is an engineering student and a member of Dalhousie's Supermileage team. Supermileage is a team that builds  a car and tries to make it as fuel efficient as possible, so Allison knows a lot about the design process.

She taught us how engineers come up with a design and then test it and then go back to the drawing board if it doesn't work the first time (Amelia Earhart once said, "Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others"). She also taught us what fuel efficiency means and the role of robotics in today's society. We got to put some of this knowledge to work by building our own cars using either a motor or a balloon to make it go!
