What is Community STEPs?

The Community STEPs (Science, Technology, Engineering, Partnerships) Program is an NSERC (National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) funded project designed to extend SuperNOVA’s reach and educational capacity.

What is the goal of the Community STEPs program?

Community STEPs enables SuperNOVA to ensure innovative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education is reaching youth across Nova Scotia, year-round, through community partners.

What does it mean to become a community partner of Community STEPs?

The cornerstone of this project is our community partners. By participating in this program, your community has the opportunity to not only learn how to deliver STEM programming, but to provide youth with meaningful STEM experiences and the foundational skills to pursue a career in any STEM related field.

How will SuperNOVA help my community build their own STEM program?

Along with supplying necessary tools, and a program framework suited to the community, SuperNOVA will provide an information/training session and one FREE on-site youth workshop hosted by an experienced SuperNOVA team member!

What is SuperNOVA’s role? What will SuperNOVA provide to the community?

Overall, SuperNOVA’s role in the Community STEPs program is to provide a STEM program framework and early stage development support. More specifically, and in addition, SuperNOVA will:

-       Host 1 on-site information/training session to interested community members and potential program leaders

-       Host 1 FREE on-site STEM workshop for youth in the community

-       Provide a community-specific program framework

-       Teach potential leaders how to run a sustainable program and teach STEM activities

-       Provide a frequently updated database of STEM activities

-       Provide remote support until the program reaches a level of self-sustainability

What is the community partner’s role?

As the community partner, your role will be to sustain the STEM program that you developed in partnership with SuperNOVA. In addition:

-       Facilitate STEM club programming in the community

-       Act as positive STEM role model in the community

-       Foster a love of STEM learning among youth community members
